Athens Tour of Pizza: Little Italy Redux (Mar 26)

In case you’re just joining us, a varying and motley crew is going to EVERY pizza place in Athens, one at a time, every Wednesday at noon until we’ve exhausted every option. Next week is DePalma’s (downtown). Everyone seems to be excited about that stop! If you haven’t come yet, you should. We have a blast.

So, this week we went to Little Italy again, because last time–the first stop ever on the first Tour ever–it was just me and Nora Fickel. Everyone lamented missing it, so we arranged a second pass-through.

Reviewers were polarized here; some liked the regular-Joe, “‘we just do pizza’ vibe”; others hated the “annoying video games” and “flickering fluorescent lights.” Everyone agreed that sitting in the front–in the tall booths, or by the large front windows–is MUCH better than sitting in the rather neglected back room, which is kinda yucky. It was a little redeeming (and this is just me talking) that Steely Dan was playing, and that we got to watch “Top Ten Throwing Tantrums” on ESPN. YESSS!

It doesn’t get much better than .35 for a topping…

CRUST: 3.7
Thin crust people were VERY happy; thick crust people said it was “a little salty and cold” and “a little bland,” but “FLUFFY!”

SAUCE: 3.1
A few people–perhaps not coincidentally, those who ordered a whole pizza–considered their slices saucy enough. Everyone else but one reviewer considered the slices to hardly have sauce on them at all! “What sauce?”

Jack, Andrew, Audrey, MSG Sallee

BLAND. Most reviewers felt that they aren’t stingy with it, though.

Not as wide a selection as other places, but toppings are generous, and they have all the basics. “The pineapple always falls off!” complained one reviewer. “How to fix that?” (Any topping engineers in the house? The only thing I can think is that they should be kind of glued down with cheese…)

The ladies particularly like a gentleman we’ll call “Mr. New York” who takes orders…and unfortunately he was not in humor to give consequence to any of us yesterday. Oh, well. (He was still very nice.) Other than that, the pizza came up super fast as usual!

Pretty dang big.

NICE, Wesley.

Okay…no Coke products can be summed up thusly: “Pepsi? What the…?!” Free soda refills and a small beer selection redeemed them slightly.

WAIT TIME: 4.5 I’d say this is the fastest place by a mile so far in the Tour. Even the people who ordered a whole pie were impressed with how fast their food came!

RESTROOMS: 2.2 The people who went described the facilities as “messy, and no mirrors.” No place to change a baby’s diaper, either. Restrooms are single occupancy.
